Microsoft's latest Copilot AI boost wants to turn everyone into a prompt writing expert — and it even wants to chat with you now

Microsoft 365 Copilot has now introduced new features to provide more timely assistance. The company has developed new tools to help users create more effective prompts for interactions with AI-powered tools. In the future, Copilot will automatically complete user-initiated prompts to generate better results. It will also provide more detailed suggestions to ensure users receive the information they require.Copilot prompts are designed to enhance the user experience. According to Jared Spataro, Chief Product Officer of AI at Microsoft, in a blog post, “We hear from our customers that interacting with AI can be challenging.” He described the prompt box as a “blank canvas” that requires users to provide additional context. “We have all learned to utilize search engines by identifying relevant keywords to obtain accurate results,” he wrote. “AI requires more information – similar to delegating tasks to a colleague. However, when users face a blank prompt box, it may feel like a blank canvas with no idea of where to begin.”

The tool will also assist users when they know what they wish to ask, but are unsure how to phrase it. With the new rewrite feature, Copilot can convert a basic prompt into a more refined one with the click of a button. This will transform everyone into a prompt engineer.

Users will have the ability to create, share, and manage prompts within the Copilot Lab. They will be able to share specialized or custom prompts with their teams and colleagues. There is also a new chat interface that analyses your recent activities and provides personalized insights. The “Catch Up” feature can provide briefing notes or insights ahead of meetings, or remind you of appointments based on information from your work.

Microsoft states that these new features will become available in the upcoming months and are the beginning of a series of improvements aimed at making Copilot more intelligent and user-friendly.

The news was announced in conjunction with Microsoft and LinkedIn’s Work Trend Index survey, which polled over 31,000 employees globally to discover the latest trends and practices. AI was a top priority, as three-quarters (75%) of respondents use AI in some capacity at work. They state that the technology not only enhances their creativity, but also saves and frees up time for focusing on crucial tasks.
