Leaks continue
Rear camera iphone 15
Currently, we are constantly seeing leaks of information about the iPhone 16, and the latest one comes from a tried and trusted source of premium information: the design of the case. The newly leaked information about the shape of the body seems to once again show off the updated design of the rear camera of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
This particular leak comes from serial informant @SonnyDickson (via MacRumors) and shows what appears to be the vertical shape of the tablet that Apple will apparently use on the two lenses on the back of cheaper iPhone models this year.
It’s a rumor we’ve come across before, but the more leaks like this we see, the more we’re inclined to believe they’re accurate — though there’s nothing definitive about that until Apple makes an official announcement, probably in September.
In addition to renders showing off the new design, we’ve also seen leaked schematics, body shapes, and block models showing off the new camera layout, so if this isn’t Apple’s approach to design, then the numerous leaks should be wrong to take this year.
More spatial video?
The latest iPhone has two rear cameras arranged diagonally on a square bump. The vertical alignment we’re seeing in these new leaks is something Apple has used before, but you’ll have to go back to the 2020 iPhone 12 to find it.
As for why the reverse transition occurs, it seems that spatial video is to blame: while the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max can record this special video format with enhanced 3D (available to watch on the Apple Vision Pro), the two cheaper 2023 models can’t record.
The vertical arrangement of the two cameras allows you to record spatial video, making it accessible to more phones and more people. Perhaps Apple’s engineers also liked the look of the new device and decided it was time for a change.
