5 things we want from the iPhone 16

The iPhone 16 is expected to be one of the biggest selling phones of the year, even leaving Samsung’s powerful Galaxy S24 series in the dust. This is likely to happen regardless of how good the phone actually is, due to the strength of the Apple brand and the iPhone. However, so far, the leaks have been mostly positive, indicating a potential upgrade to the chipset and battery, as well as new buttons.

While we may not see improvements in every aspect of the iPhone 16, there are several changes that we would like to see – both those that have been rumored and those that are not. Therefore, we have listed five features that we hope to see in the iPhone 16 below. Some of these features are likely to be implemented, while others may not, but all would contribute to making this the best possible iPhone.

Essential AI Skills

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the latest and greatest in technology, and smartphones are no exception. Devices like the Google Pixel 8 and Galaxy S24 already boast numerous AI capabilities. These phones are slightly behind Apple, but we hope the company will catch up this year. Leaks suggest that Siri could receive an AI update with iOS 18, which could include various AI features on the device and even App Store AI. This would mean a host of useful AI features would be available when the iPhone 16 is released.

A Step Forward in Photography

While the iPhone has traditionally been known for its excellent camera capabilities, we’re hoping that the iPhone 16 series will take things to the next level. The iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are likely to feature some of the most advanced photography features, but even the standard iPhone 16 is likely to offer impressive image quality.

However, one area that could use some improvement is the photo processing. While the iPhone’s photos are generally excellent, they often lack the depth and vibrancy of photos taken on other devices like the Google Pixel 8 Pro. We’d love to see Apple take a more personalized approach to image processing, allowing users to customize their photos to suit their individual preferences.

Of course, there are already some photographic styles available, but they aren’t quite right. They don’t capture the essence of Pixel or Samsung images. While we don’t expect a complete overhaul of the photo processing system, we hope that Apple will make some improvements in this area.

Until then, we can only hope and wait for the next generation of iPhones to deliver on our expectations.

Refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Apple is likely the only brand in the world that could get away with charging a high price for a phone with a 60 Hz screen. The same thing happened with the iPhone 15, and there are indications that the same might happen with the iPhone 16, but we truly hope not.

On Android, one can get a device with a 90 Hz or even 120 Hz display for significantly less money. Therefore, it seems as if Apple has no good reason to hold back on the feature, other than to justify the price of their even more expensive Pro models better.

If the iPhone 16 is to be a genuinely excellent phone by 2024, it must indeed have a 120 Hz display without the accompanying price increase.

Large Battery

The iPhone 15 has a battery capacity of 3,349 math, which is a fairly small amount compared to other phones in its class. For example, the Galaxy S24 has a 4000 mAh battery, which is significantly larger.

If we look at other similarly sized smartphones, we can see that they often have even larger batteries. This suggests that Apple could improve the battery capacity of the iPhone 16 by increasing the size of the battery.

In our review of the iPhone 15, we found that it offers all-day battery life. While this is impressive, a larger battery would still be beneficial, especially as batteries tend to wear down over time. The new iPhone 16 could potentially offer even better battery life than its predecessor.

Leaks suggest that the iPhone 16 will have a slightly larger battery than the iPhone 15 at 3561 mAh. However, this is still smaller than many other phones in the same size category.

Latest Apple Chipset

The iPhone 16 is expected to have a newer and more powerful chipset than the iPhone 15. However, over the past few years, Apple has been using older chipsets from their Pro models in their non-Pro models.

If this trend continues, the iPhone 16 could have the A17 Pro chipset, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 16 Pro, on the other hand, could receive the new A18 Pro chip.

While the A17 Pro isn’t lacking in power, it’s an unusual choice for a phone as expensive as the iPhone 15 (and the iPhone 16 likely will be) to have something other than the most recent and powerful chipsets available.

Therefore, it would be desirable for the iPhone 16 to receive the same chipset as the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Max. It is currently unclear whether this will occur, as leaks indicate that all of these upcoming devices could receive some version of the A18 chip. There is also the possibility that the Pro models could receive an even faster A18 Pro variant.
