While it may be slightly more expensive than its predecessor and lacks true fast charging, as well as Apple’s controversial decision to include 5x optical zoom, these minor issues do not detract from the overall quality of the iPhone. Overall, the iPhone 15 ProMax is a great device that will impress even the most demanding users.
iPhone 15 Pro Max: A Two-Minute Review
Let’s give Apple the chance to make titanium sound sexy and remind us of aging joints. We know that Apple is proud to tell us that the same titanium used by NASA on its rovers is also used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pro. I believe it, and I find it impressive. However, when I think of titanium, my mind usually goes to hip or knee replacements. Due to these properties, titanium is a preferred material for surgeons because of its corrosion resistance, light weight, and high strength. For these same reasons, it makes an ideal material for iPhone cases.A patient with a new titanium knee or hip may not be able to touch metal, but if you purchase an iPhone 15 Pro Max or test it as I did, you will notice that it is smooth. You will also find that it is so durable and pleasant to the touch, thanks to its matte finish. The phone does not feel cold to the touch.
Having a 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max provides a completely different experience compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Titanium seems lighter and slightly warmer compared to the previous polished steel. However, titanium is not the only material used. Apple has made small but subtle changes to the frame by removing just enough metal to add contoured edges. This is one of the smallest yet most striking design changes from a smartphone manufacturer that really changes the feel of the phone in your hand.
Staying true to this concept, Apple’s removal of the mute/ringer button is one of the most pleasant and useful changes they have made. Turning boring analog functions into customizable buttons that can do whatever you want is a great improvement.
Apple has outlined the edges of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, the biggest change for some iPhone users may be the addition of a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port. I understand that this change can be frustrating, as it means more cords in our homes, offices, and cars. However, it won’t affect the way our phones work. At least, Apple is offering a braided USB cable.
Sure, we may miss the old port, but I believe we will soon forget about it. If these are the only changes between this phone and its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max might disappoint some users. However, this phone is significantly more powerful than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The new Apple A17 processor provides console-quality gaming experience for the first time in the iPhone lineup. Of course, games like Resident Evil: Village were not designed for a 6.7-inch screen, even though it has Apple’s Super Retina display. This is the smallest screen we’ve seen on an iPhone.The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s triple camera setup looks similar to that of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but appearances can be deceiving. While the exterior may seem unchanged, the device has been upgraded both internally and externally to provide users with the best possible photography experience on a smartphone.
Apple appears to be using the same 48-megapixel main camera sensor from last year’s Pro Max model, but they have significantly redesigned the image processing system.
The array of three cameras on the new iPhone 15 Pro Max looks similar to the previous models, but with one key difference – a more powerful lens with 5x optical zoom.
Along with this, a new default image size of 24 megapixels has been introduced, which combines pixels from 12-megapixel images with full-resolution data from 48-megapixel photos to produce realistic images in most cases. This feature is particularly useful when shooting landscapes, as it allows for more detail and clarity in the background.
Another notable improvement is the ability to automatically switch between portrait and landscape modes. The new iPhone can read depth information in most cases and adjust the focus accordingly, ensuring that important details are captured in both modes.However, if you were expecting 10x optical zoom from your iPhone, the iPhone 15 Pro Max might disappoint you (although not as much as the 3x optical zoom on the iPhone 15 Pro). When Apple announced that it would increase the maximum optical zoom on its largest smartphone to 5x only, I was disappointed. After all, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra has a great 10x optical zoom and an impressive 100x space zoom with artificial intelligence (though, for my preference, it might have too much “artificial” information). If you prefer, you can still choose it. Apple is doing a good job keeping up with the competition by offering only half the zoom range. The main reason is that the image quality at the extended focal length is excellent and sometimes even better than Samsung’s best cameras.The combination of a new 3 nm chipset, a display that can reduce power consumption to 1Hz, and intelligent power management ensure a full day’s worth of battery life for your iPhone. However, the actual experience you have with your iPhone will depend on how you use it.
In short, this is my two-minute review of my favorite iPhone yet. I am not usually a fan of Apple’s larger iPhones, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max feels lighter (and slightly smaller) compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Combined with the new contoured edges, it comfortably fits in your hand. With all these gorgeous photos, high performance, and seemingly endless features, this iPhone deserves a spot near the top of our list for the best mobile phones.

The price for the iPhone 15 Pro Max is $1,199 / £1,199 / A$2,199, which is more expensive than the previous model, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, it comes with 256GB of internal storage, twice as much as the base model, putting it on par with the starting price of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

In fact, Apple removed this tier and settled on a base model with 256GB of internal storage and a price of $1,119. This slight reduction in price makes the iPhone 15 Pro Max slightly less affordable than the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which has a similar configuration. However, I believe that the standard storage capacity for all smartphones, particularly these days, should be 256GB. iPhone 15 Pro Max Design Review
The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a lighter weight and is easier to hold in the hands. If you haven’t heard, Apple’s professional-grade 2023 iPhone has replaced the polished stainless steel frame with a brushed titanium frame, which is durable, corrosion-resistant, and, most importantly, lightweight.
In addition to the changes in the external metal structure, Apple has also made some other changes that give the phone a new look. The new contour edges are a noticeable improvement. At first glance, the iPhone may look similar to the iPhone 14 Pro Max, but a closer look reveals softer curves that make the phone more comfortable to hold and carry. The frames are also noticeably thinner, making the Super Retina XDR display appear larger and the dynamic island smaller.Due to the different sizes and weights, the two phones feel different. The iPhone 14 Pro Max has a size of 77.6 x 160.7 x 7.85 mm, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max is 76.7 x 159.9 x 8.25 mm, which is slightly smaller than the previous model. This difference in size can be seen when trying to attach the newer phone to the leather case designed for the older model, as the inside of the case will not fit properly. It’s also worth noting that the newer model is slightly thicker than its predecessor.
This side of the iPhone 15 Pro Max resembles that of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, except for the addition of a titanium case and a new frame made from recycled aluminum. Thanks to these changes, the iPhone 15 Pro Max weighs 19 grams less than the iPhone 14 Pro Max (221 grams vs. 240 grams), a noticeable difference that is sure to be appreciated by users.
Another significant design change is the new USB-C port, which is slightly larger than the previous Lightning port. Although the cable that comes with the iPhone may not be able to provide the fastest data transfer speeds (10 Gbps), it still offers a reliable connection.The front and back of the case are made from what Apple calls “durable glass-based material,” while the front panel has a ceramic screen that’s designed to protect the glass. I don’t expect to drop my phone often, so I can’t really comment on the durability of these materials. But I did drop mine into a fountain, and the phone with IP68 water resistance handled it perfectly. It only happened for a second, but the phone was designed to float in water at a depth of six feet for 30 minutes.
Please note that if you immerse your phone in water, it won’t be able to connect to a charger until it’s completely dry. Apple didn’t change the power/sleep/Siri buttons, but they did add a new feature button only available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max and 15 Pro models.
Say goodbye to the silent/ringer switch and hello to the action button.
This small button replaces the old mute/ringer switch (which is still available on the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models). Instead of a simple switch, the action button is controlled through one of Apple’s most advanced user interfaces.The default action button controls the ring/silent status, but instead of a toggle switch, you need to press it to see the phone’s status (ringing or silent) and hold it to change it. While many people may prefer to leave it alone, they are missing out on all the useful features it offers.
The Action button allows users to activate their favorite focus mode, use the advanced controls found on the Action button settings page, turn on/off the flashlight, launch voice memos, convert the phone into a digital magnifier, and add favorite shortcuts for instant access. Users can also disable specific functions, start the camera, and disable all action button functions (which can be useful in certain situations).
If the Ringtone and Do Not Disturb settings are not easily accessible, users can find them in the updated Control Center.
Setting up Apple Action Control on the iPhone is different from other functions. After trying the action button in the default mode, I switched to camera control quickly. From here, I could instantly open the camera with a long tap and take a photo with a quick tap.
The only downside of this new button is that if you’re used to taking screenshots by holding down the power and volume buttons at the same time, you might accidentally press the action button on the left side of the phone instead. We predict this will become a meme about the iPhone 15 Pro Max: “When you press the action instead of increasing volume.”
Overall, the design of the iPhone 15 ProMax retains all the good features of the previous model while introducing changes in ergonomics and functionality. The body is lighter, the lines are smoother, the screen is larger, and the buttons and ports are more functional.

New FineWoven Case for iPhone 15 Pro Max As Apple continues to focus on environmental sustainability, it has been rethinking its packaging for years. I remember when they started using biodegradable materials for their EarPods, and now they are extending these efforts to the iPhone and Apple Watch. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has an interior made entirely from recycled aluminum, with a battery that uses recycled cobalt. Additionally, Apple is reducing carbon dioxide emissions through the use of more environmentally friendly materials in its products. For years, I have often purchased leather cases for my iPhones to protect them, but leather is not always the most environmentally friendly option. This year, however, Apple is introducing the new FineWoven material for its MagSafe cases and wallets, which looks great and still protects your device well. My wife initially thought the material was faux suede, but upon closer inspection, I noticed a thin weave that makes it stand out from other cases.

The Super Retina XDR screen has a maximum brightness of 2000 nits, making it perfect for use in bright sunlight. If you loved the 6.7-inch display of the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the screen of the 15 will likely delight you even more.Apple has slimmed down the black bezels around the Super Retina OLED display, making it appear larger. This also reduces the size of the dynamic island, and with the new curved edges, it looks like the screen extends beyond the phone. Although the screen size is slightly smaller, the resolution of 2,796 x 1,290 pixels at 460ppi remains the same as in the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Essentially, this iPhone gives those pixels more space to breathe. However, it’s a bright screen with a maximum brightness of 2000 nits, so there were no problems using it outside in bright sunlight. The wide color gamut produces a rich image, and the contrast ratio of 2 million supports even the darkest shades of black. Whether you’re viewing photos, playing games, using apps, or watching videos, you’ll enjoy everything on this screen.Thanks to ProMotion support, the iPhone 15 Pro Max handles scrolling on web pages in the same way as it does for videos and games. All movements seem smooth. In addition, the phone has the ability to turn off at a frequency of up to 1 Hz, so it continues to provide information while consuming energy only when needed, making it ideal for long-term use.
Everything looks great on the 6.7-inch display, including streaming videos. I set up my iPhone 15 Pro Max on the Belkin Boost Charge Pro wireless charging pad, automatically switched to the new iOS 17 mode, and placed it on the nightstand. At night, the always-on display was bright enough to see the time at a glance in the middle of the night. The display is still great for a smartphone, but if the Samsung flagship has a stylus built-in and supports both stylus and touch input, why has Apple chosen the largest and best display? Maybe it’s because it wants to keep things simple and intuitive. Anyway, I understand that not everyone needs pen input. Apple can intuitively understand this, and its top-notch screen technology is supported by some new features in iOS 17.
iPhone 15 Pro Max Camera Review
When you look at the specs of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the 48MP camera resolution might not seem like a big change from the iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, if you look closer, there are some significant differences. Leaving aside the 5x optical zoom that the iPhone 15 doesn’t have, let’s focus on the 48MP sensor. The iPhone 15 uses an advanced IMX903 sensor from Sony. This sensor allows for some impressive photography capabilities, and Apple is using it in innovative ways to create a truly unique camera experience. All default images are processed at 24MP, but Apple combines 48MP data into a 12MP frame and adds all the details from the 48MP sensor to create stunning photos.The only downside to using 24MP images is that they take up more storage space (around 1MB) compared to 12MP images. To save space, Apple saves images in the HEIF format, which is slightly smaller than the original file size. However, if you want to take high-quality, uncompressed images, you can use the 48MP RAW format. The resulting images are stunning. The colors are vibrant and accurate, with a slight over-saturation of the sky (probably due to the use of HDR). Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, the iPhone 15 Pro Max wins in terms of color accuracy and clarity. The flowers in my photos look perfect, and the macro shots are impressive. My skin tones are also accurately captured, regardless of my complexion. For example, my freckles are clearly visible and my pale complexion is accurately represented. Apple has invested in advanced photo editing tools for this iPhone, allowing users to create stunning images with ease.In particular, you now have the option to choose between digital lenses in the following ranges: 13-24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 48mm, and 120mm, as well as a 5x zoom. To view these measurements, simply open the camera app and hold one of the available zoom levels. Alternatively, you can also go to the settings and select a preset lens.While this may seem complex for some users, it’s essential to understand what millimeters in the lens represent. Magnification and field of view are measured in millimeters, with smaller millimeters resulting in a wider field of view and lower magnification. If you prefer, you can simply disregard this information or act as a professional by switching lenses in the middle of a shoot. Apple’s decision to limit optical zoom to 5x is disappointing, but it’s difficult to argue with the outcome. The lens employs a unique tetraprism design (light bounces four times between the lens and the image sensor) to create stunning images. Although it’s far from a 10x zoom, I believe Apple enthusiasts will be pleased with the current outcome.Although digital zoom can enlarge images, the quality of these images is not up to par when examined closely. This zoom feature is paired with the new 3D Sensor Shift Optical Image Stabilization, which significantly improves video stability, especially when using digital zoom. I was impressed with the stability when filming a robin sitting on a swaying branch, about 5 yards away. The entire iPhone 15 lineup significantly enhances portrait photography. Although the special mode is still available, it is no longer essential to use it to achieve similar results. The camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max can capture depth information, enabling users to transform almost any photo into a professionally-looking portrait, even if taken with only the main camera. You can check if your camera can detect depth by looking at the small portrait icon in the upper right corner when taking a photo.Click on the button and choose Portrait mode (turn it on or off) to see how your photo will look in portrait mode. Please note that this feature may not always work as intended. If your camera is unable to “see” people, animals, or objects, or if it is unable to capture useful depth information, you may not be able to convert your photo into portrait mode. However, in my experience, most photos can still be successfully converted. When you adjust the depth of field in portrait mode, you can also change the focus point by clicking on another object in the scene. This feature works well and gives you greater control over the focus and depth of your photos. With this new feature, you can truly feel like a master of portrait photography!
Portrait photos, including those taken with the TrueDepth front camera, have been significantly improved with the addition of the Apple Photonic Engine. This makes portrait photography more professional and requires fewer calculations than before, and we know that Apple loves technology.
Apple has also made some improvements in low-light and night photography. The image processor in the iPhone 15 Pro Max captures more light and uses it more efficiently, even in challenging conditions. While it’s not as good as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in some areas, I think Apple has achieved a comparable level of performance.
Night photography also seems to be improved. In the photo of stars, I noticed that the green color had decreased and the stars had increased. However, the only thing that the iPhone 15 Pro Max can’t do as well as the Galaxy S23 Ultra without a third-party app is take photos of star trails.The iPhone continues to be a great tool for video recording. It offers a variety of lenses to choose from, as well as an action mode that allows you to record your kids’ soccer games without getting sick, and a cinematic mode for shooting high-quality videos. The latter works similarly to portrait photography, allowing you to move the focus from one subject to another with just one touch.
With the iPhone 15 Pro Max, you can even change the focus of your video after taking it, something that is not possible with traditional film. This is a useful feature if you forget to focus on the correct subject when taking a picture. Currently, the phone can record 4K ProRes videos at up to 60 frames per second, although the lack of 8K support may be a concern if you have an 8K TV.Despite Apple’s increasing focus on professional photography with its smartphones, the camera app still falls short compared to Samsung’s in terms of depth and functionality. While Apple may know its users better than other companies, it seems to have gone too far in burying some useful features under the surface.
I understand that Apple wants to provide a seamless experience for its users, but it also needs to offer more features that are essential for professional photographers. The balance between providing a great user experience and offering advanced features is a fine line that Apple needs to walk carefully.
Despite these challenges, Apple has managed to create impressive image quality on its devices. This is evident in the high-quality images that any smartphone user can envy.
iPhone 15 Pro Max: Performance Review
Since the release of Apple’s latest processors, the company has pushed the limits of what is possible in the world of laptops, desktops, and mobile devices. Apple has often outperformed its competitors and, in some cases, even overtaken generations of systems on the chip (SoC).
I believe it’s safe to say that the A17 Pro represents a significant improvement over the A16 Bionic found in the iPhone 14 Pro Max (which is also used in the current iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models). Compared to its predecessor, the A17 is built on a smaller 3nm manufacturing process, providing increased efficiency (including extended battery life) and a 10% faster CPU and 20% quicker 6-core graphics processor. Additionally, it supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

Apple’s Performance Claims Confirmed
The Geekbench 6 results for the iPhone 15 Pro Max confirm Apple’s claims of performance. These results show that the A16 Bionic chip in the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra operates at 3.46 GHz, while the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 operates at 3.36 GHz and the A17 Pro operates at 3.78 GHz.
Of course, these numbers only tell part of the story when it comes to performance. For me, what matters is what the iPhone 15 Pro Max can do. One of its promised features is the ability to play console-quality games, which I was skeptical about. Console games aren’t mobile games, so they won’t be the same until they run on the iPhone 15 ProMax.
I recently played Resident Evil: Village on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Capcom provided me with access to the game’s test flight, which was a large download that I had to complete over my home WiFi. After the download, I noticed an issue with the game. Resident Evil is designed for console controllers, and without one, the controls are placed on-screen. All the usual buttons from a console controller take up a lot of space on the 6.7-inch screen.
I realized that I needed a physical controller to play the game, so I borrowed one of my son’s Xbox controllers and connected it to my phone using Bluetooth. While I’m not a hardcore gamer, I have to say that the graphics in the game look great on the larger screen of my iPhone. However, it’s unfortunate that the dynamic camera angles take up so much space on such a small screen.The graphics in the game were smooth and never stuttered. At the start of the game, there was one pixel spot where the shadows weren’t completely attached to the snow, but it was a minor issue that didn’t affect my experience. This made me think that the game was more about the transfer of console games to mobile devices than the A17 Pro itself.
Other than that, the game ran smoothly and sounded great. Wearing AirPods Pro gave me a truly immersive experience, and it was enough to convince me that console-quality games will soon be available on mobile phones.
Outside of gaming, the iPhone 15 Pro Max performed as expected and I had no issues with the speed or responsiveness. I edited some 4K videos at 60 fps in iMovie without any problems, and the speed of the phone’s processor on the A17 was comparable to that of the A16 on the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
In the United States, SIM card trays have begun to disappear from the iPhone 14 series, although they are still available in other countries around the world. As with the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which was released in the US last year, my sample only worked with an eSIM. While it is easy to transfer a phone number to these new options, it means you won’t be able to replace or remove the SIM card without help from your carrier.
The iPhone 14 is also a 5G phone, but your experience with 5G will depend on your location and the number of users near your base station. With 5G being so fast these days, we’re all looking forward to 6G which is still in development.The communication quality is excellent. My wife often notes that I speak clearly and with a “boyish” tone. I’m not sure if this is due to the internet connection or the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s free time machine feature. In the latter case, Apple should adjust its marketing strategy to emphasize this particular upgrade more.
Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is Apple’s first model to support Wi-Fi 6E. This is great news if you own a Wi-Fi 6E router at home or work. According to my Speet Test, conducted by Google online, the iPhone 15 Pro Max consistently had faster download and upload speeds than my previous iPhone models with Wi-Fi 6.
Furthermore, there’s a new ultra-wideband chip in all iPhone 15 devices that allows you to locate not only your own device, but also other iPhone users nearby.Apple is also expanding its support for satellite services, including free roadside assistance for two years, as well as emergency SOS support. The idea behind this is that in areas with poor or no cellular coverage, the system will be able to connect to satellites in orbit and send messages to transportation authorities nearby.

It brings a lot of useful features and improvements that will make your phone more efficient and productive.When I made a FaceTime call (which, by the way, looked great), I used the new iOS 17 gestures to send a thumbs up and balloons. Some of them appeared behind me, creating a great visual effect.
iPhone 15 Pro Max Battery Life Review
The iPhone 15 ProMax comes with a new USB-C to USB-C cable, which is included in the box. While Apple does not disclose the exact battery capacity of the device, we can assume that it is at least comparable to that of the previous model, the iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, battery life is not solely determined by its size.
Battery life is influenced by several factors, including mAh (milliampere-hour) capacity, processor efficiency, and intelligent management features, often based on artificial intelligence. To illustrate this, let’s look at the battery life of the iPhone 15 ProMax after 28 hours of use. This metric is random and will vary depending on how you use your phone. Keep in mind that I did not charge my phone during 5 hours of sleeping time.

Apple claims that the iPhone 15 Pro Max can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes with an optional 20W USB-C adapter. However, during this time, my device was only at 47% charged. It took another hour and a half to fully charge the device. I am puzzled by why Apple has not fully implemented faster wired charging technology.
To charge your iPhone 15 Pro Max, you will need to use the new USB-C port and the provided USB-C cable. To my surprise, instead of the traditional plastic and rubber protective covering, the cable features a braided design. These cables resemble those used for MacBooks and Home Pads and are likely more durable than older models.

Additionally, while Apple’s decision to include 5x optical zoom may seem like a step backward in smartphone telephoto technology, it is still a significant improvement over previous models. Overall, the iPhone 15 Pro Max delivers an impressive experience that justifies its price tag.
Is the iPhone 15 ProMax worth buying?
**Design**
The combination of a titanium body and smooth curves provides both aesthetic and ergonomic benefits, earning it a 4.5 out of 5.
**Screen**
Despite not having a higher resolution, the screen is larger and looks stunning, earning it another 4.5 stars.
**Camera**
This is the best camera collection I’ve seen on an iPhone, receiving a perfect 5/5.
**Performance**
The A17 chipset is as fast as promised and can handle even the most demanding games, earning 4.5 points.

With iOS 17, Apple has delivered a major update that significantly improves the user experience, earning another 4.5.
**Battery Life**
While the battery lasts all day, I’d still like to see faster charging, earning a 4 out of 5 for battery life.
