Google is working on a faster Android setup process that uses Wi-Fi and a cable

In the near future, the process of setting up an Android device may become significantly faster. A trusted source within the industry, Assemble Debug, has recently delved into the code of Google’s Data Restore tool and shared their findings with Android Authority. Through their analysis of the files, they have identified potential evidence of a new tool called “MultiTransportD2dTransport” and a line of code that reads “Copying data using cable and Wi-Fi for the fastest possible speed”.Based on the information provided, it appears that Google may in the future allow users to transfer data from an older phone to a newer one by utilizing both a Wi-Fi connection and a cable simultaneously. This could potentially expedite the process, at least theoretically. However, it is not yet known precisely how much faster data transfer would occur when using both wired and wireless connections simultaneously. The Assemble Debug team did not find extensive information regarding this matter in the relevant files. They did, however, uncover another line of text stating, “Want to speed things up?”. This suggests that faster speeds may be an optional feature. If a user prefers to utilize the slower approach of simply connecting cables between devices, that option would still be available.

Additionally, another feature referred to as “Restore Anytime” was discovered within the Data Restore Tool files. However, information regarding this feature appears somewhat ambiguous. When reviewing a screenshot from the article, it appears that users could easily transfer photos, contacts, text messages, and other data from an older Android smartphone to a newer device without any loss of data. They would not need to be concerned about performing a factory reset or any other actions on the older device. No data would be overwritten and this process would even work for transferring data from an iPhone to an Android device as long as the iPhone has its charging cable connected.

However, there is some confusion regarding the requirements for transferring data. Android Authority claims that the donor device must have previously been used to transfer data to the current device in order for the process to work without issues. This statement contradicts the article’s claim that data can be transferred to new devices at any point. This seems like an unusual feature. Perhaps Google has not yet established a clear set of guidelines for Restore Anytime, which could explain the confusion. Alternatively, it is possible that the tech giant is experimenting with a feature that they do not intend to release at this time. It is difficult to say for certain, but hopefully, Restore Anytime will eventually be launched in some form. The ability to transfer significant amounts of data to newly acquired smartphones without the need for resetting or interruptions would be very beneficial.
